I WILL HELP YOU TO

Get noticed for your distinct sound

and create your own tribe.

You’ve got a solid grasp of the fundamentals, but you wonder how to take your music to the next level. As Thelonious Monk said:

“A genius is the one most like himself”.

Producing original music, the way of the artist (cue sound of oriental flute playing), can be an intimidating path to choose, but to discover new lands one must walk the path less trodden. There’s a reason there are so many copycat producers because it’s a hella lot easier. Ultimately this leads to dissatisfaction, feeling unfulfilled, & creating facsimile versions of somebody else’s musical style.

I am here to help you find your own signature sound.

Hi I am Andy, an Australian music producer, DJ and music tutor, based in Berlin.

My focus is to help you find your own signature sound. I will coach you through this process. Along the way I will help you understand the psychology of the creative process, overcome obstacles, and finish your music quicker.

I will help you see music as a metaphor. You will be able to tell your personal, unique story through music and create a dialogue with your audience. I will help you discover what is special about your path and how it can be translated into your music. We will take a pragmatic step by step technical approach that demystifies the creative process.

I have over seven years of experience teaching the technical aspects of music production. Throughout the years I have begun to observe that the problem of copycat music has only grown worse. The democratization of recording music (advancements in digital technology in the last two decades, and releasing (goodbye middle men) further intensifies it. I want to change that.

If you are, like me, tired of cookie cutter music that trades innovation for safety, let’s work together to create that change.

Deciding to carve your own path is a courageous choice and can be difficult. But, I believe it is the highest path one can chose as a creative and I am here to help you succeed.

I began my studies in Jazz & Contemporary Music & Music Production at Box Hill TAFE College in Melbourne, Australia. I spent countless late nights at gigs learning from other musically gifted and advanced players, jazz harmony & the art of improvisation. At the same time, it was the golden era of rave culture. I attended my first dance party (‘bush-doof’ in Aussie terms) and lost my mind! I’d never heard sounds like this before in my life. Immediately, I was hooked. Straight away I plunged headfirst into the world of electronic music production, and although the jazz heads didn’t quite get it at the time, I stepped out of what they were all doing, acquired what little gear I could (I found a Juno 6 for a measly 300 AUD) and began tweaking!

Since then, my music has taken me to other sides of the globe, not to mention exploring my backyard, Australia. I have shared stages with the likes of Opiuo, Konrad Black, Stimming, Fiord/Antix/Out Of Sorts, I have played Burning Man, Symbiosis Festival, nightclubs of Berlin, and the Australian festival circuit including Rainbow Serpent’s infamous Market Stage. I have remixed artists like Mark Henning and released on respected labels such as Open Records. In 2017 I moved to Berlin and worked with Hannes Bieger and Ben Rau, one on one in their studios, learning directly from these successful artists new ways to lift my musical game and connect with my audience.

Why I do what I do

When I started my music career in Australia, I took advantage of being young and part of the clique. Two other artists and I played in clubs and festivals around the continent. We emulated the popular minimal sound playing in the clubs in Berlin & Europe. Australia hadn’t caught up yet stylistically, and it gave us an exciting edge. In a way, our strategy was to leave our careers up to luck and spontaneous connections.

I moved to Berlin in 2017 to forge a career in Europe, but the real turning point came for me after one of my remixes, that had been shelved for 7 years by the label, was finally released. By then, my sound had already evolved so much, that it didn’t even feel like my track anymore.

I’ve realized that putting your hopes in other peoples’ hands is not the right approach. Relinquishing your power to the industry labels is leaving your dreams up to luck and dramatically lowers your odds of breaking through.

I had a breakthrough and realized that we live in an era where there are no gatekeepers. You can have your distinct sound, build your audience, start a label and release your music. Ironically, building yourself to a point where you have credibility and negotiation power is what will attract the labels and lead to signing more music.

More artists need to realize the importance of authenticity. You have the power to be a genre definer, to develop your formula for success, to wake up every morning knowing exactly what needs to be done to take you closer to your goals. I am here to be your guide in that process.

"For years now, Andy has been the first and last set of ears I go to during my creative process. The first when I have a new idea that I’m fleshing out or have near the finish line, and the last, for a more objective perspective to make sure everything is just right before I send something off for mastering and release.

I’ve always had somewhat of a raw, ‘cowboy’ approach to my production that plays a large part in my sound, so it’s always been invaluable to me to have Andy’s musically trained ear and technically precise mindset available to bounce these things off of. His advice, from both musical and technical perspectives, always helps me keep a check on my blindspots, balance out my wilder tendencies, and keep me from going too far off the rails when things start getting super gnarly, all while keeping a very open mind to the idiosyncrasies that make my sound my own.”
